Francis Carter (gest. 1783) bereiste Spanien zwischen 1753 und 1773. Er war nicht nur ein guter Kenner des Landes, sondern auch ein bekannter Sammler spanischer Münzen und Bücher. Sein Interesse gilt überwiegend der Numismatik, aber auch anderen Altertümern wie etwa römischen Inschriften. Erste deutsche Ausgabe.
